Soka Gakkai Malaysia Joins "Green Consumers" Campaign

Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) Johor, in collaboration with the Johor State Economic Planning Unit and the Ministry of Tourism in Malaysia, organized a "Green Consumers" campaign on November 27 at the SGM Johor Culture Center. The event was created to raise awareness on the issue of environmental protection in the community. Over 2,500 attended, including more than 20 government agencies, NGOs and business entities which participated in the campaign.

The campaign was officiated by State Executive Councillor Tan Kok Hong on behalf of the Menteri Besar of Johor (the chief executive of the state government). The SGI and Earth Charter exhibition "Seeds of Hope: Visions of sustainability, steps toward change" was on display during the event. Other activities included the distribution of environment-friendly bags, charity sales of "green" products, videos on environmental protection and an exhibition of environment-friendly vehicles and paints. There were also demonstrations on making yeast and organic fertilizers.
