"Seeds of Change" Exhibition Shown in São Paulo, Brazil
From May 20 to June 9, 2010, the SGI and Earth Charter joint exhibition "Seeds of Change: The Earth Charter and Human Potential" (SOC) was displayed at the Open University of Environment and a Culture of Peace (UMAPAZ) in São Paulo, Brazil. The exhibition was shown as part of UMAPAZ's awareness raising and education program that has promoted the values and principles of the Earth Charter in schools throughout São Paulo since 2007.
Guests attending the exhibition included Eduardo Jorge, executive director of the Green Spaces Environmental Department in São Paulo. Mr. Jorge expressed his appreciation for the SGI and SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's efforts to promote environmental protection.
On June 5, World Environment Day, the SGI-Brazil (BSGI) Academic Department held its first Environmental Protection Training Session at the BSGI Nature and Culture Center. Two hundred people, travelling from six states including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, participated.
During the session, BSGI General Director Julio Kosaka talked about the importance of thinking globally to work toward solving environmental issues.
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of SGI President Ikeda's initial visit to Brazil planted 50 Pau Brazil trees at the BSGI Nature and Culture Center.
