"Seeds of Change" Exhibition Held in Iceland
From March 8-26, 2009, the SGI's exhibition "Seeds of Change: The Earth Charter and Human Potential" showed at Reykjavík City Hall in Iceland. Iceland President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson spoke at the official opening on March 8. In his remarks, President Grímsson thanked the SGI members for organizing the exhibition and thereby providing the opportunity for many students and young people to learn more about our collective responsibility for the planet and to see that it is possible to effect a change through the numerous examples shown. He also said that it was time for everyone to take personal responsibility for ensuring a viable environment for all life.
Árni Pétur Guðjónsson, a well-known Icelandic actor was the event's MC. Acclaimed singer Anna Klara Georgsdóttir performed at the opening. Students from a local high school dramatically presented parts of the Earth Charter. Reykjavík's Board of Education for elementary schools introduced the exhibition to all the elementary schools in Reykjavík and has planned for school groups to visit the exhibition over the next two weeks.
