"Youth Can Move the World" Symposium in Canada
On February 21, 2009, SGI-Canada's Halton-Peel Area youth members linked up with other social and volunteer organizations for a "Youth Can Move the World" Symposium at Mississauga Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario. The symposium, geared toward Ontario's youth, promotes social responsibility and the benefits of volunteering. This is the second year that SGI-Canada has participated in the event.
SGI-Canada youth introduced the SGI's exhibition "Seeds of Change: The Earth Charter and Human Potential" which included a talk on the Charter's key principles of social justice and environmental awareness. They also shared a message from SGI President Daisaku Ikeda about the Earth Charter and emphasized how each person can make a difference.
The youth members later met for lunch with the mayor of Mississauga, Hazel McCallion.
