On January 4, 2009, Singapore Soka Association (SSA) members brought old clothes and newspapers to their Soka Culture Center in support of the South West Community Development Council's "Charitable Recycle@South West." SSA was one of the event's community or corporate partners that included City Harvest Church, the South West Mosque Cluster, Sembcorp Tay Paper Pte. Ltd and Koh Kock Leong Enterprise Pte. Ltd.

The funds from the recycling event will be distributed to current Institute of Technical Education (ITE) students from low income families. Approximately US$39,800 was raised from the 16,700 kg of clothing and 45,500 kg of paper collected.
