"21st Century Environment Exhibition" Opens in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture
On October 6, the "21st Century Environment Exhibition--The Future is in Our Hearts," which supports the UN's "Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014)," opened at the Higashi Nippon International University-Iwaki Junior College campus in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. Dr. Yoshitaka Abe, director of Aquamarine Fukushima, underscored the importance of humanity reflecting on and learning from past mistakes that have adversely affected the ecological balance, for the sake of the future. He commended the exhibit for its well-laid out message. Higashi Nippon International University sponsored a commemorative lecture for the exhibition by one of its professors, Chieko Nagoshi, titled "Life and the Environment."
The exhibition aims to raise awareness, promote education about, and discover solutions for major global issues such as global warming, deforestation, the worsening gap between rich and poor. Divided into segments titled "The Present World," "The Heart to Protect and Foster Life," and "A Revolution of the Heart to Enhance the World," the exhibition introduces SGI's environment efforts, Mr. Ikeda's dialogues and activities and women leaders who stood up to protect the environment. All posters and flyers are environmentally friendly and use recycled paper, inks and dyes made from soybeans.
