Soka Gakkai Malaysia Supports Nuclear Abolition Day

At the SMJK Yu Hua schoolTHS exhibition shown at the SMJK Yu Hua school in Kajang

From June 21-23, the SGI antinuclear weapons exhibition "From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit" (THS) was held at the SMJK Yu Hua school in Kajang, Malaysia. The exhibition was held in support of ICAN's Nuclear Abolition Day, a global day of action calling for a treaty to outlaw and eliminate all nuclear weapons commemorated annually on June 25. The SGI exhibition "Seeds of Hope: Visions of sustainability, steps toward change" was shown at the school in 2010.

On June 21, Ms. Chang Keng Ling, deputy principal of the school, opened the THS showing during the school's morning assembly. During her speech at the opening, Ms. Chang stated that she hoped the exhibition would help students to deepen their understanding of both peace issues and those surrounding nuclear weapons. Soka Gakkai Malaysia representative Wendy Yee Mei Tien also gave a speech.

All the exhibition guides were students and more than 3,500 teachers and pupils viewed the exhibition, which also included a screening of the video Testimonies of Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Women Speak Out for Peace, produced by the Soka Gakkai Women's Peace Committee.
