Tony Meers (left) with Bill Baneja, Ottawa Peace Festival co-organizer"No force can match that of a fundamental transformation in the human spirit." These are the words of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda in his 2011 peace proposal "Toward a World of Dignity for All: The Triumph of the Creative Life," in which he makes a renewed call for a world free of nuclear weapons and talks about the importance of human rights education. On September 25, a meeting was held at SGI-Canada's Ottawa Community Centre, as part of the 5th Ottawa Peace Festival, where SGI-Canada General Director Tony Meers gave a talk highlighting Mr. Ikeda's peace proposal. Points discussed included dialogue as being a vital force in the reestablishment of ties between people and in creating a culture of peace. Two of the Millennium Development Goals of eradicating poverty and hunger and promoting environmental sustainability were also discussed.
