SGI Antinuclear Weapons Exhibition Held in Nagano, Japan

From July 28-31, the SGI antinuclear weapons exhibition "From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit" (THS) was shown at the Inoue Department Store in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

At the opening of the THS exhibition, Shuichi Abe, the governor of Nagano Prefecture, conveyed his appreciation to Soka Gakkai for its activities promoting peace, the welfare of society and the environment. He also expressed his desire to contribute to global peace and environmental awareness through engaging in local grassroots activities, together with the citizens of Nagano and the members of Soka Gakkai.

This exhibition was organized by Soka Gakkai members in Nagano with the aim of raising public awareness of the 23rd United Nations Conference on Disarmament Issues which was being held in Matsumoto from July 27-29. Some 90 government representatives and experts from 24 countries attended the conference, the theme of which was "Urgent and United Action Toward a Nuclear-Weapon-Free World." SGI Program Director for Peace Affairs Kimiaki Kawai also attended as a representative of civil society.
