Youth Conference on Global Issues Held at Taplow Court
On March 18, 2010, a conference on pressing global issues, titled "Inter-Change," was held at the SGI-UK Taplow Court Grand Culture Center. The conference was organized by Creative Junction and brought together 200 young delegates from diverse social and geographical backgrounds, which included schools, community support groups and volunteer organizations. SGI-UK members volunteered to help facilitate the smooth flow of the day's activities.
At the conference, the youth discussed complex global issues and learned about the vital role the arts and culture play in helping to transform people's hearts and minds. The conference also provided inspiration for the youth to become agents of change within their own communities.
Case studies from young people's partnerships in countries such as South Africa, India, Malawi, Uganda and countries in Europe prompted the young delegates to consider their place in the world and their role as global citizens and leaders.
The "Inter-Change" conference also explored various community projects promoting conflict resolution, social justice and international school partnerships as well as encouraging the delegates to discover ways in which they can each promote understanding of global issues within their own communities.
