SGI-Philippines Hosts "Transforming the Human Spirit" Exhibition

From January 23 to February 7, 2010, the exhibition "From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit" was on display at the SGI-Philippines Culture Center in Manila. The show was co-hosted by SGI-Philippines and the Order of the Knights of Rizal, a Philippine civic organization.

Following the ceremonial ribbon cutting on opening day, SGI-Philippines Young Women's Leader Mary Grace Jingco and Sir Emmanuel M. Cabusao, Chairman of the Jose Rizal Model Students, Knight Grand Cross of Rizal, each shared welcoming remarks. The event also included a chorus performance by SGI-Philippines youth members.

SGI created "From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit" to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Soka Gakkai Second President Josei Toda's declaration calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons (September 8, 1957). The exhibition was launched on September 8, 2007, in New York at a civil society forum to galvanize public opinion for the abolition of nuclear weapons and the creation of a culture of peace specifically aimed at mobilizing youth. The traveling exhibition has also been shown at the UN Office at Geneva, the Parliament House in Wellington, New Zealand, and several venues in the United States, Canada and Malaysia.
