SGI-UK and University of London Cohost Peace Symposium
On January 27, 2010, SGI-UK cohosted a peace symposium with the Development Education Research Centre of the Institute of Education, University of London, at SGI-UK's Taplow Court Grand Culture Center. The symposium focused on humanitarian competition and global perspectives, based on SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's 2009 Peace Proposal titled "Toward Humanitarian Competition: A New Current in History."
Scholars from various fields attended, including Development Education Research Centre Director Douglas Bourn who contributed to the discussion on globalism. Professor Jason Hart of the University of Bath opened the symposium. Dr. Hart was followed by a lecture from Professor M. Satish Kumar of Queen's University Belfast who discussed competition based on principles of humanism. Breakout groups following the lectures enabled participants to respond to and discuss the ideas presented in the presentations.
