On February 3, 2009, the SGI's exhibition "Building A Culture of Peace for the Children of the World" opened in the Forks Market in Winnipeg, Canada. A central theme of the exhibit is that children are the future. The local media widely covered the opening. Sylvia Kuzyk, Winnipeg's best known TV personality, emceed the event. In addition, the Honorable Dr. Jon Gerard, leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party; Georgina Sabesky, acting president of the United Nations Association Winnipeg; and Randy Cameron, general manager of the Forks Market, spoke at the event. The opening included a musical performance by Canadian duo Keith and Renée. SGI-Canada Winnipeg representative Maxine Stewart shared a quote from SGI President Daisaku Ikeda which captures the essence of the exhibit: "A great human revolution in just a single individual will help achieve a change in the destiny of a nation and, further, will enable a change in the destiny of all humankind."
