"Children and a Culture of Peace" Exhibition Opens in Sri Lanka

From August 18-20, 2008, SGI's exhibiton "Building a Culture of Peace for the Children of the World" was shown at the University of Peradeniya in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Exhibition organizers were the University of Peradeniya's Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies and Soka Gakkai Lanka Buddhist Association (SGI-Sri Lanka).

University of Peradeniya Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Wickramasinghe and Dean of Arts Prof. K. T. Silva as well as university faculty members and students attended the official opening on August 18. Festivities included a traditional candle lighting and reading of a message from SGI President Daisaku Ikeda. Prof. Wickramasinghe praised the SGI's initiative to hold a peace-themed exhibition in Sri Lanka. SGI-Sri Lanka General Director Ranjith Rupasinghe expressed his desire to further disseminate the hopeful message of the exhibition in Sri Lankan society. Many students and local residents were able to view the exhibition over the three-day period.
