"From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit" Exhibition in Dominican Republic
"From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit," an exhibition created by the SGI that examines the nuclear weapons issue through the lens of human security, showed from June 12-26, 2008, at the Cibao Grand Theater in Santiago in the Dominican Republic. Some 150 attended the official opening on June 12, including Vice Minister of Culture Enegildo Peña; Cibao Grand Theater Director Gina Rodríguez; Regional Director for the Education Ministry Pedro Diep; and Fernando Pérez Memén, director of La Información, a national newspaper. This was the first showing of the exhibition in Latin America.
Mr. Peña stated: "Vargas Llosa, one of Latin America's most significant writers, said that humanism is to love mankind. In that sense, I feel that this exhibition is full of love for humankind. Culture and education are the way to transform human beings. This is an excellent exhibition that serves to wake up people's consciences."
