Soka Gakkai Thailand Participates in Nonviolence Festival at Thammasat University

Visitors at SGT's exhibition

November 2-3, 2007, Soka Gakkai Thailand (SGT) participated in the second Nonviolence Festival at Thammasat University's Tha Prachan campus in Bangkok, Thailand. The Research Center for Peace Building at Mahidol University sponsored the event in collaboration with 25 organizations including the National Research Council of Thailand. Participants attended lectures, workshops and exhibitions on nonviolence, and discussed ways of resolving regional conflicts, countering terrorism and building peace. SGT hosted an exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda's call for the abolition of nuclear weapons in 1957 and SGI's peace ideals and activities. Mr. Toda's historic declaration was also an appeal for young people to actively promote peace and condemn nuclear weapons, which threaten the collective right of humankind's existance. SGT's young women's fife-and-drum corps also performed at the event.
