War Experiences DVD Launched by Women's Peace Committee
In view of the increasing age of many war survivors, Soka Gakkai's tradition of collecting war experiences has been stepped up recently.
The Soka Gakkai Women's Peace Committee has launched a DVD containing excerpts from 31 interviews with women war survivors from a total of 181 who were interviewed throughout Japan. Copies of the 160 minute DVD have been donated to 624 public libraries all over Japan and it is available free for educational use. (Japanese language only). The DVD contains seven sections; Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Okinawa ground warfare, war nurses, women and children in war, rescue from China and Korea at the end of the Japanese occupation and aerial bombardment.
The Young Women's Peace and Culture Committee of Hiroshima also conducted 82 interviews of survivors of the atomic bombing, some of whom spoke for the first time about their experiences.
