His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan Awarded Soka University's Honorary Doctorate

On August 24, His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan received an honorary doctorate from Soka University in Hachioji, Tokyo. The Jordanian prince was recognized for his longstanding contributions to intercultural understanding through dialogues and to the worldwide flourishing of academic scholarship and culture. In his acceptance speech, HRH Prince El Hassan expressed his hopes for countries of Asia to contribute to world peace through a shared culture as a foundation, setting aside a framework of nationalism. He contended that developing interfaith understanding was crucial with the key being a spirit to learn from others. HRH Prince El Hassan also emphasized the importance of the United Nations, setting aside arms and resolving conflicts through dialogue and mutual understanding. Her Royal Highness Princess Sarvath and Jordanian Ambassador to Japan H.E. Samir Naouri were present at the conferral. HRH Prince El Hassan, who is also the current Club of Rome President, received the Soka University Friendship Award from the university student body.
