12, as part of Human Rights Day (Dec. 10) celebrations, "A Path to Dignity: The Power of Human Rights Education," was screened at the UN Headquarters in
New York. The 28-minute film is a collaborative production by Soka Gakkai
International (SGI), Human Rights Education Associates (HREA) and the Office of
the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), who, together
with Permanent Mission of Costa Rica to the
United Nations, co-organized the screening.
"A Path to Dignity" presents
three case studies that illustrate the transformative power of human rights
education among school children in India, law enforcement agencies
in Australia and women victims of violence in Turkey. ]]></description>

		<title>IOP Greets 50th Anniversary with Lecture Series on Women</title>

	        <description><![CDATA[ The Institute of Oriental
Philosophy (IOP) commemorated the 50th anniversary of its founding with a series of four lectures exploring the general
topic of women in modern
society. Speakers focused on current issues confronting women in Japan, such as
the declining birthrate, aging society and the rebuilding of communities in the aftermath of the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami. The series
ran from September through November.
On September
10, Dr. Kaku Sechiyama, professor of Gender Studies and East Asian studies at
the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, spoke about Japan's declining birthrate and aging society from the

WorldPride is a global movement that celebrates the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. This year's WorldPride focused on the movement towards worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality and the attainment of global equality for LGBT people.

The ceremony took place at the Bellavista City Hall in Callao, Peru's largest port which borders the capital Lima. It also celebrated the 25th anniversary of SGI Callao Chapter's founding. Many guests, including Alberto Paz de la Vega, director of culture of Callao constitutional province, and Iv&aacute;n Rivadeneyra Medina, mayor of Bellavista District, attended.

On June 11, SGI women members in Kenya and other countries in eastern Africa gathered at the University of Nairobi to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Soka Gakkai's Women's Division. Ms. Betty Kaari Murungi, a human rights and peace activist, as well as an international lawyer, attended as a guest speaker and spoke about women's rights. Ms. Murungi received the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear in 2003.&nbsp;

The conference, which ended on April 16, brought together representatives of the States Parties to the European Cultural Convention, decision makers, education practitioners, international institutions and civil society representatives.

	        <description><![CDATA[ On March 10, 2010, eleven SGI-Iceland youth members collaborated with the Red Cross of Iceland and the national Human Rights office, in an activity to raise awareness about racism. The event was part of the annual Europe-wide "Action Week Against Racism," a campaign inspired by the United Nations General Assembly's declaration of March 21 as "International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination."
The Action Week Against Racism initiative aims to highlight racism from a non-governmental perspective and calls on people to actively engage in promoting tolerance and equal rights and to celebrate diversity.

	        <description><![CDATA[ On December 10, 2009, in celebration of the International Day of Human Rights, the Baha'i Center of Luxembourg City and the Organization for the Education of Adults invited representatives of various religious communities to attend an interreligious dialogue with the theme, "The Contribution of Religions to Human Rights." SGI-Luxembourg, a member of Action Group Inter-Religions (AGIR)—an interfaith organization—participated in the event as representatives of the Buddhist community in Luxembourg. 


Presentations on the theme were made by representatives from the Jewish, Christian, Buddhist and Baha'i faiths. Approximately 50 people attended the event.

		<title>Singapore Soka Association Supports World Mental Health Day</title>

	        <description><![CDATA[ From October 1-4, 2009, members from the Singapore Soka Association's (SSA) Soka Volunteer Group joined hands with interns from the Silver Ribbon Singapore (SRS) organization to pack 10,000 information and support packages to combat the stigma of mental illness.


The packages were created to help raise people's awareness of mental illness and to address stereotypes and biases attached to the illness. Over a period of three-and-a-half days, 100 Soka Volunteer Group members worked on this project. The packages were later distributed to the general public at the World Mental Health Day 2009 celebration held at Cheng Yan Place, Singapore on ]]></description>
