In November Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) took part in two community events, the first to raise funds to donate to Thai flood relief efforts and the second to raise awareness of the issue of hunger and famine around the world.

The fund-raiser took place on November 13 in a fishing village in Kuala Perlis, Perlis State where SGM members participated in a charity bazaar. Overall, the bazaar raised 30,000 Malaysian ringgit (approx. US$680). The amount raised was given to Sin Chew Jit Poh, a Chinese-language daily newspaper in circulation in Malaysia, to be channeled to the flood relief efforts.

At the second event, titled "10 Hour Famine Event," that took place on November 26, dancers from SGM Selangor and twirlers from their Fife and Drums Corps performed. The event was organized by students of the Advanced Learning Centre College and held at SJK Chung Huain, a girls school in Klang, Selangor State.

From November 9-13, three SGM youth leaders also participated in the Inter-civlizational Youth Engagement Program (IYEP) in Petaling Jaya, Selangor State. The theme was "Youth: How to Buy Back Our Future." IYEP aims to foster closer ties between young people from different cultural/civilizational backgrounds, to deepen their understanding of global challenges and of the role of young people in the resolution of such challenges. This, the fifth IYEP, was organized by the International Movement for a Just World.
