On November 6, some 300 people attended a lecture on arthritis and osteoporosis given by Dr. Liau Kai Ming, a senior lecturer and orthopedic surgeon at the Universiti Sains Malaysia. The lecture was organized by Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) Penang and held at the SGM Penang Bukit Tambun Culture Centre.

In his talk, Dr. Liau stressed that people over the age of 40 are more susceptible to arthritis and osteoporosis, which are on the rise due to Malaysia's aging society. He also gave some tips on preventative measures.

On November 12, members of the SGM Beacon group, which consists of SGI members in the healthcare professions, such as doctors, nurses and practitioners of traditional medicine, held a seminar at the SGM Culture Centre in Cheras. Topics discussed included the care of the terminally ill and the doctor-patient relationship, both seen from a Buddhist perspective.
