Soka Gakkai Malaysia Makes Donations for Haiti Earthquake Relief

 

On March 16, 2010, in response to the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in January 2010, Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) donated RM (Ringgit Malaysia) 10,000 (US$ 3,138) to the United Nations Children's Fund's (UNICEF) 2010 Haiti Earthquake Children's Appeal. A check was presented to UNICEF Operations Officer Cheah Yew Hee by SGM Secretary-General Koh Sia Feai, on behalf of the SGM members.

Similarly, on March 17, SGM donated RM10,000 (US$ 3,138) to the Malaysian Medical Relief Society's (MERCY) Haiti Relief Fund at a ceremony during which SGM General Director Choo Kong Fei formally delivered a check to MERCY Malaysia Executive Director Ir Hj Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin.

The funds collected will be used to support Mercy Malaysia's partner, Medical Emergency Relief International (Merlin) in their emergency medical relief activities in Haiti.
