SGI-Philippines Members Assist with Typhoon Relief
During the months of September and October, 2009 SGI-Philippines members promptly organized a relief effort in response to the damage caused by tropical storm Ondoy that hit the city of Manila in the Philippines on September 26, dumping a reported 34 centimeters of rain – equivalent to a month's worth of rainfall – in just 6 hours. A few days later, on October 4, tropical storm Pepeng hit the northern island of Luzon, causing massive flooding and destruction. The storms are reported to have affected nearly four million people. SGI-Philippines members united to prepare and deliver emergency supplies such as rice, water and grocery bags containing food supplies (sardines, noodles, etc.) to people in the affected areas.
