SGI-Canada Youth Volunteer at Benefit Concert for Free the Children

On August 23, 2009, SGI-Canada youth participated as volunteers at the Free the Children benefit concert held at the Segal Centre for the Performing Arts in Montreal, Canada.

Free the Children, an organization dedicated to upholding the rights of children around the world, sponsored the concert to raise funds for the creation of the first public arts school in Kenya. Artists from the Montreal music community performed at the benefit.

Nineteen SGI-Canada youth supported the event in numerous ways, including taking reservations, working as ushers and greeters, selling raffle tickets, helping with stage set-up and assisting as back stage crew.

Michael Murphy, SGI-Canada Quebec Region Young Men's leader, commented that participating in the event gave SGI-Canada youth an opportunity to contribute locally to their community while also having a positive impact on children in another country.
