Singapore Soka Association Participates in "Bag of Hope 2009"
Singapore Soka Association (SSA) partnered with North East Community Development Council (CDC) in "Bag of Hope 2009," a community outreach effort targeting families in need. The project aims to collect and distribute food staples to families who are on the CDC's public assistance rosters.
On April 4, 2009, SSA members and friends brought their donations to Tampines Central Community Club. A total of Singapore $50,000 (about US$ 35,000) worth of food items were collected. Eighty members of the Soka Volunteer Group helped in the checking and sorting of donated items. On April 5, some 600 SSA members and friends gathered again to distribute the "Bags of Hope" to families in the community.
