On October 20, 2008, Singapore Soka Association (SSA) hosted the fifth stockholders' meeting of Mercy Relief (MR), a non-governmental humanitarian organization and SSA's humanitarian aid partner. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who launched the organization in September 2003, participated in the event that commemorated MR's five years of regional humanitarian work. Among the 300 guests were Mercy Relief advisor and Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi, ambassadors to Singapore from Cambodia and Myanmar, religious leaders of the Inter-Religious Organisation, grassroots leaders and volunteers.

Mercy Relief Chair T.K. Udairam paid tribute to Mercy Relief's three partners from the religious sector, including SSA. He lauded SSA's ongoing support and its involvement in youth expeditions to help communities in Cambodia, the Philippines and Indonesia. The SSA Soka Chorus performed at the event.
