Soka Gakkai Malaysia Members Contribute to Local Communities

Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) members regularly visit children and the elderly in special care facilities, providing cheer and encouragement to residents. On October 8, 2006, SGM volunteers from Kulai and Saleng cities in Johor State visited residents at the Saleng Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children Association, located in Johor Bahru. The volunteers performed dances and songs for the children and spent time talking with them. During the visit, SGM representatives presented RM1,000 (approx. US$286) in cash, foodstuffs and other daily provisions to the facility.

SGM also organizes regular blood donation drives in support of local blood banks. On September 24, 2006, SGM members in Sandakan participated in a drive and donated 49 pints to a hospital. In August, SGM Melaka members donated 88 pints during their annual blood donation drive held in conjunction with a Family Day event.
