Soka Gakkai Holds Tohoku Earthquake Memorial Services

iwakiIn Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture

On March 11, Soka Gakkai members throughout Japan held memorial services for those who lost their lives in the Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent tsunami two years ago. At the services, prayers were offered for the rapid recovery of the affected Tohoku Region, where so many are still struggling with the aftereffects of the disaster, and for the recovery and happiness of those affected.

Memorial services were held in various locations in Iwate, Miyazaki and Fukushima Prefectures, areas that were particularly hard hit by the earthquake and tsunami. Following prayers, some individuals shared their personal experiences of coping with the aftermath of the disaster and reported on positive developments in their respective areas.

SGI President Daisaku Ikeda also offered memorial prayers at the Soka Gakkai Headquarters in Shinanomachi, Tokyo, on March 11. He sent a message of encouragement to the people of Tohoku in which he expressed his concern regarding their hardships following the disaster and commended their efforts toward recovery.
