SGI Members Around the World Celebrate May 3, Soka Gakkai Day

SGI Members of Western Cape Western Cape, South Africa

In April and May, SGI members around the world gathered to celebrate May 3rd, Soka Gakkai Day. In their respective locales, members studied the writings of Nichiren, shared experiences in faith, put on cultural performances and refreshed their commitment to continue challenging their own personal development and create positive change in their families, communities and nations.

It was on May 3, 1951, that Josei Toda was inaugurated as the second president of Soka Gakkai, and on May 3, 1960, that Daisaku Ikeda became the third president. May 3 is also considered "Soka Gakkai Mother's Day," in recognition of the vital role that women play within the organization.
