SGI Women's Group Meetings Held in Singapore and Sri Lanka
During June, Singapore Soka Association (SSA) Women's Group members held local discussion meetings nationwide in celebration of the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Soka Gakkai's Women's Division. At the neighborhood meetings, totaling a participation of 8,866 people, members shared faith-based experiences as well as introduced various health and environmental issues in an effort to widen circles of friendship and solidarity among women in their local neighborhoods.
In the face of numerous hardships befalling the island nation of Sri Lanka--a long and bitter civil war lasting over a quarter century (1983-2009) and the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami--the women of SGI-Sri Lanka have continued their efforts to build networks of trust in their local communities while also raising children and working to support their families. On July 15, SGI-Sri Lanka’s Women’s Group held their annual general meeting at the SGI-Sri Lanka Culture Center in Colombo under the theme "Women's courage is the driving force for victory!" in which participants shared experiences in faith and together pledged to further their Buddhist activities for securing peace and happiness in their country.
