SGI-Spain Youth Meet in Canary Islands
At the Leal Theater in La Laguna CityOn July 15, SGI-Spain youth members in the Canary Islands held a general meeting at the Leal Theater in La Laguna, Tenerife.
The members heard a congratulatory message from SGI President Daisaku Ikeda on the holding of the gathering and faith-based experiences from SGI-Spain youth members about how they applied their Buddhist practice to finding work and passing important examinations. There was also a dance performance and a song dedicated to the youth.
The meeting also included a commendation of an award by the University of La Laguna (ULL) Department of Education upon Mr. Ikeda for his contributions to the promotion of education. Under Mr. Ikeda's leadership, SGI-Spain members have hosted numerous exhibitions promoting nuclear disarmament and sustainability.
A total of 500 people participated in the event, including Juan José Moreno Moreno, secretary of the ULL Department of Education, and Jesús Domingo Galván Delgado, a member of the City Council.
The Canary Islands is a Spanish archipelago located just off the northwest coast of mainland Africa, 2,000 km southwest of the mainland Spain.
