"I'm now filled with optimism, love, confidence and friendship" expressed a youth member after attending the SGI-Panama youth convention held at the SGI-Panama Culture Center, Panama City, on July 22.

The gathering celebrated the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Soka Gakkai youth group in Japan. Special guest DJ Yellow was invited to perform for the 500 participants who attended from throughout the country, including provinces such as Panamá, Colón, Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro.

The theme of the meeting, "Main Protagonists of a New Era," placed a spotlight on the power of youth to help shape the world into one based on humanistic values. The theme was discussed in small groups. One participant said, "We shared opinions and ideas, as if we were a family . . . The message that I will take away with me is that we have to advance no matter what."

A presentation on the life of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda was followed by the reading of a message he sent for the occasion. Participants also enjoyed dance and choral performances.
