SGI-Spain youth members held a meeting in Zaragoza City, Spain, on March 19-20 to kick off celebrations of the 50th anniversary of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's first visit to the country and SGI-Spain's establishment in 1961. Participants gathered from throughout the country, including from the cities of Madrid and Barcelona.

During the opening festivities on March 19, the young people offered prayers for those lives lost in the March 11 earthquake and tsunamis that hit northeastern Japan and for the fast and safe recovery of the affected regions.

On March 20, SGI-Spain men and women members joined the youth. On this occasion, Calatayud City in Zaragoza Province presented a certificate of appreciation to SGI-Spain for its contributions in promoting peace, culture and education and for raising awareness of environmental issues under the leadership of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda.

Calatayud City Mayor Victor Javier Ruiz de Diego expressed his hope that SGI would continue to impart its message of respect and harmony within the city of Calatayud--a nexus of culture and religion.

The meeting on the 20th also featured a dance performance by the SGI-Spain Arts Division.
