On March 6, SGI members in Chile commemorated the 18th anniversary of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's February 1993 visit to the country at the SGI-Chile Culture Center in Santiago. Mr. Ikeda sent a message on this occasion, encouraging participants to have faith that all obstacles and challenges can be overcome with strong conviction and urging them to become people of hope within their communities.

At the meeting, participants who had met Mr. Ikeda during his visit in 1993 shared their experience of practicing Buddhism over many years and how it has helped transform their lives for the better. Others shared their determination to contribute to society.

The first SGI group meeting was held in 1974 despite a very difficult political climate. The previous year, a coup d'état resulted in the suppression of freedom of speech and assembly in Chile.
