Mr. Familia also remarked that he learned a great deal about faith through watching people in Japan and Haiti stay strong in the face of great obstacles. He also talked about SGI-Dominican Republic's relief efforts following the earthquake in Haiti.

On April 17, SGI members from the Dominican Republic and Haiti gathered at the Peace Bridge Center in Dajabón City, Dominican Republic, for an exchange meeting. One young man spoke about how he has grown from his struggle to cope with his best friend's death following the Haiti earthquake. Other participants told how their practice of Nichiren Buddhism helped transform their lives for the better.
