High School Students in Iceland Learn About Buddhism
On March 7, SGI-Iceland representative Eyglo Jónsdóttir gave a talk on Buddhism to some 40 students at Menntaskólinn á Akureyri High School in Akureyri in northern Iceland, as part of its guest speaker series. Every year for two days in the spring semester all classes stop and the school invites various people to give talks or organize educational workshops on different themes for the students.
Ms. Jónsdóttir gave a talk titled, "The Humanistic Philosophy behind Buddhist Practice," in which she discussed Nichiren Buddhism as practiced by SGI members and introduced aspects of the practice of chanting daimoku. The talk was followed by a question and answer session for students. A separate discussion was also held with several teachers during which Ms. Jónsdóttir answered various questions about Buddhist views on life.
