On June 26, an exchange meeting was held between SGI members from Haiti and the Dominican Republic in Juana Mendes, Haiti.

The very first exchange meeting of this kind was held on January 24, 2010, 12 days after a massive earthquake struck Haiti on January 12 causing major destruction within the country and resulting in massive fatalities. Meetings have continued to be held since, as part of the process of "care for the heart."

Those present at the meeting offered prayers for the victims of the Haiti earthquake as well as for those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, and offered prayers for the fast and safe recovery of the affected regions.

At the meeting, one man from Haiti spoke about how moved he was by the support and care of SGI members following the Haiti earthquake. In the aftermath of the earthquake, SGI-Dominican Republic members took part in relief aid activities, providing emergency food and supplies, as well as moral support.

SGI-Haiti Chapter Leader Niaud Pierre spoke about how the path toward recovery is not an easy process; however, he reminded everyone that SGI President Daisaku Ikeda and fellow members around the world are sending their support. He called on everyone to advance with hope in their hearts.
