SGI members in the Netherlands and in Italy deepened their understanding of Buddhist philosophy through studying for Buddhist study exams which were administered in their respective countries in November.

SGI-Netherlands held an elementary study exam in Zeist on November 13. Examinees answered questions about the life of Nichiren, the history of the Soka Gakkai, and a selection of passages from Nichiren's writings.

SGI-Italy also held its first entrance-level study examination on November 20 at 108 venues in 94 cities. About 9,400 people took the exam. In addition to the basics of Buddhism, participants studied Nichiren's key writings such as "On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land" and "On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime".

This year, advanced Buddhist study exams were also administered in Switzerland and in German-speaking countries, and an elementary study exam was held in several Francophone countries.
