Anniversary of Nichiren's Birth Celebrated
On February 16, Soka Gakkai members in Japan and SGI members around the world held prayer services commemorating the anniversary of the birth of Nichiren, who established the Buddhist practice followed by SGI members (February 16, 1222).
On the same day, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda joined with representative Soka Gakkai leaders at the Soka Gakkai Headquarters in Shinanomachi, Tokyo, to offer commemorative prayers, vowing to advance world peace with the same spirit as Nichiren.
A separate ceremony was held on the same day with Soka Gakkai representatives from around Japan, where Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada introduced Nichiren's life and efforts to propagate Buddhism, emphasizing the efforts of the three founding Soka Gakkai presidents to embody and actualize the teachings of Nichiren in society.
