SGI-Sierra Leone Members Vow to Create Peace
On July 18, 2010, a commemorative district meeting was held in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The event included a presentation on the life of Nichiren and one of his closest disciples, Nikko, as well as on second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda and his disciple Daisaku Ikeda.
Members also shared their own experiences of transforming their circumstances for the better through their daily practice of Nichiren Buddhism. The meeting also included a discussion on the importance of prayer in living a life in which one is never spiritually defeated, symbolized by the lion king in Nichiren Buddhism. The SGI-Sierra Leone members also discussed their desire to become positive role models for creating peace in their country, which has experienced civil strife for the last 10 years.
