On November 13, SGI members from the city of Funchal on Madeira Island, Portugal, held their first general meeting, which also commemorated the 80th anniversary of Soka Gakkai's founding. SGI-Portugal Young Women's Leader Joana Craveiro gave a presentation on SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's series of books titled The New Human Revolution, a novelized account of SGI's history that describes the struggles of ordinary people to realize peace.

On the same day, SGI members living in the Archipelago of the Azores held a general meeting on the island of São Miguel, in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo.

An SGI-Portugal leader spoke about Nichiren's writing "Happiness in This World," which clarifies, based on Buddhist practice, how one can fully enjoy life and lead the happiest possible existence.
