SGI Commemorates May 3

On May 2, 2010, commemorative general meetings were held at various locations throughout the world to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's inauguration as the third Soka Gakkai president on May 3, 1960.

A meeting held at the Panama Culture Center in Panama City included festive performances of dance and songs by the young women's group. SGI-Panama General Director Gabriel Martínez Garcés spoke about the significance of May 3rd and the importance of living with gratitude.

Similarly, SGI-Belgium members held their commemorative meeting at the SGI-Belgium Culture Center in Brussels, on May 2. SGI-Belgium General Director Kiyoshi Shimura and Women's Leader Roslyn Hashimoto-Cohen encouraged participants to advance in their own personal growth and development and to live with hope and solidarity.

SGI-Cameroon members celebrated May 3 and Soka Gakkai Mothers' Day, which is the same day, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Youth members presented flowers to women at the meeting and sang a song titled, "Mother." SGI-Cameroon General Director Claire Dikongue attended and shared her determination to deepen her understanding of the shared commitment of mentor and disciple and to live based on a philosophy of value creation.
