SGI-Dominican Republic Appoints New General Director
On May 2, 2010, SGI Dominican Republic held a leaders' meeting at its culture center in Santo Domingo. At the meeting, Pedro Familia was appointed the new general director of SGI-Dominican Republic and former General Director Takashi Nishio became director of the SGI-Dominican Republic's Executive Guidance Council.
Mr. Familia began practicing Nichiren Buddhism in 1994, shortly after which he started his own business. In 1996, he attended a general meeting in the US also attended by SGI President Daisaku Ikeda. Mr. Familia shared that he was greatly moved by Mr. Ikeda's encouragement to exert oneself more than anyone else in faith, practice and study and to sincerely care for others. With this guideline engraved in his heart, Mr. Familia expressed his determination to work wholeheartedly for the sake of people's happiness, with the shared spirit of mentor and disciple.
