SGI-Chile Holds Prayer Service for Earthquake Victims
On April 4, 2010, SGI-Chile held a prayer service at the SGI-Chile Culture Center in Santiago for the victims of the massive earthquake that occurred on February 27. Participants offered prayers for the quick recovery of those affected by the quake and for the peace and security of the country.
The magnitude 8.8 earthquake, centered near Concepción, caused widespread damage, destroying buildings, bridges and roads and causing power outages in many areas. In Santiago, the airport was shut down. Most affected were the cities of Concepción and Talca.
In the wake of the natural disaster, SGI-Chile members received numerous heartfelt messages from SGI President Daisaku Ikeda, in which he encouraged them to be courageous and take action to rebuild their communities.
Despite the hardship and devastation resulting from the earthquake, SGI-Chile members have determined to become examples of hope for their fellow citizens, many of whom have fallen into despair from the tremendous losses they have suffered.
