On February 16, 2010, Soka Gakkai members in Japan together with SGI members around the world held prayer meetings commemorating the anniversary of Nichiren's birth (February 16, 1222).

SGI President Daisaku Ikeda attended a service with representative leaders at the Soka Gakkai Headquarters No. 2 Annex in Shinanomachi, Tokyo. A ceremony was also held at the Soka Gakkai Culture Center in Shinanomachi with Soka Gakkai representatives from around the country.

Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada attended and shared a passage from Nichiren's writings, titled "On Establishing the Four Bodhisattvas as the Object of Devotion," which states, "Those who call themselves my disciples and practice the Lotus Sutra should all practice as I do." (The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 1, p. 978).

Mr. Harada stated that the three presidents of the Soka Gakkai have embodied Nichiren's spirit and lived in accord with his teachings. He also spoke about Mr. Ikeda's lifelong commitment to establishing the SGI, which now has organizations in over 192 countries and territories.

In conclusion, Mr. Harada encouraged participants to live at the forefront of the world peace movement, winning over all obstacles.
