SGI-UK Members Gather for Buddhist Study Seminars

On February 13, 2010, SGI-UK members gathered at SGI-UK's Taplow Court Grand Culture Center to take part in a Buddhist study seminar. Participants deepened their understanding of the humanistic philosophy of Nichiren and the insights of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda, in particular how to apply the philosophy in daily life to help realize peace and happiness in society.

On February 14, SGI-UK Vice General Director Kazuo Fujii attended a seminar which was followed by a question and answer session.

Both seminars were attended by SGI-Europe Study Leader Sakae Takahashi and SGI-UK Women's Leader Suzanne Pritchard. The material studied consisted of Mr. Ikeda's lectures on the writings of Nichiren, such as "The Drum at the Gate of Thunder."

During each seminar, Ms. Takahashi spoke about how a half-hearted determination will lead to half-hearted results and the importance of continually renewing and strengthening one's determinations to surmount problems and accomplish goals. She emphasized that a deepened understanding gained from Buddhist study is fuel for encouraging both oneself and others to win.

Ms. Pritchard spoke on the quote "It is the heart that is most important," from Nichiren's writing, "The Strategy of the Lotus Sutra." She emphasized the importance of transforming one's heart to deepen one's prayers, and shared Mr. Ikeda's encouragement about never being defeated and making the impossible possible.
