On January 1, 2010, SGI members in Africa celebrated the New Year.

Gatherings were held in five venues throughout Mauritius. At the meetings, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's New Year's message was conveyed. Participants also read Nichiren's letter titled "New Year's Gosho" making fresh determinations for 2010.

A commemorative meeting was also held in Nairobi, Kenya, at which SGI-Kenya Headquarters Leader Philemon Banja encouraged everyone to contribute to the advancement of peace in Kenya, focusing on the importance of determined prayer and a united spirit.
