Brazil, Mexico and the Netherlands Celebrate Soka Gakkai Day

On November 15, 2009, SGI-Netherlands held a leaders meeting in Zeist, commemorating the anniversary of the establishment of the Soka Gakkai (November 18, 1930). A youth training session was attended by members from throughout the country, focusing on the themes of leadership, how to raise capable successors and the concept of "many in body, one in mind." Through this meeting, SGI-Netherlands members made a united determination to improve and develop district meetings by engaging in more one-to-one dialogues.

On November 18, SGI-Brazil held its celebration of the 79th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai's founding at the Araçatuba City Hall in São Paulo State. In 2003, the City Council enacted November 18 as Soka Gakkai Day and in 2004, awarded SGI President Daisaku Ikeda an honorary citizenship for his contributions to world peace.

At the celebration, the students aired a film on SGI members' social contributions in Araçatuba. The chairman of the city council thanked SGI-Brazil for their efforts to the development of peace, culture and education in Brazil.

On November 22, approximately 1,000 SGI-Mexico members celebrated Soka Gakkai Day in Mexico City. Cultural presentations included a performance from the Fife-and-Drum Corps, as well as a song sung by SGI-Mexico young women. SGI-Mexico General Director Roberto Ríos encouraged participants to impart courage and hope to friends.
