On October 24, 2009, Soka Gakkai held its monthly leaders meeting at the Soka Gakkai International Friendship Hall in Sendagaya, Tokyo. In the spirit of youth united in a shared commitment with their mentor, the meeting was held in conjunction with the 1st Nationwide Youth Division Leaders Meeting.

SGI President Daisaku Ikeda attended, together with Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada and Women's Division Leader Shinobu Sugimoto. Two hundred SGI youth members from 50 countries and territories, who were in Japan to attend a youth training course, were also present.

At the meeting, SGI-Brazil Young Women's Leader Priscilla Nakayama reported on SGI-Brazil's Youth Culture Festival held on May 3 of this year. Soka Gakkai Youth Leader Yoshinori Sato encouraged participants to find and nurture capable youth as a way to commemorate May 3, 2010, Soka Gakkai Day.

Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada introduced SGI's theme for the year 2010, the 80th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai's founding, designated as "The Year of the Total Victory of Soka and the Dynamic Development of Youth." He also encouraged everyone to improve the quality of their discussion meetings and increase the participation of young people through one-to-one dialogue.

Quoting a passage from Nichiren's writing, "My wish is that all my disciples make a great vow" (The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, p.1003), Mr. Ikeda encouraged the youth members to take the initiative in advancing world peace and emphasized that the development of young people is key to the future of Soka Gakkai.
