SGI-UK Youth Leaders Meet at Taplow Court
On October 11, 2009, SGI-UK held its 3rd National Youth Leaders' Training Session at SGI-UK's Taplow Court Grand Culture Centre. The event included discussion of youth activities for 2010. Youth Leader Moni Shrestha shared a passage from Nichiren's writing "The Three Obstacles and Four Devils" which states, "the wise will rejoice while the foolish will retreat"—a reference to how people of wisdom will view obstacles as opportunities for growth while others will try to escape or avoid their problems.
During the training course, the youth also learned about SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's historic propagation campaign in Osaka, Japan, during the 1950s and the importance of committing oneself to encouraging others based on the teachings of the Lotus Sutra. Following this, the young people broke out into discussion groups. SGI-UK General Director Robert Samuels concluded the session with his hope that the youth would make earnest efforts in their practice and joyfully advance as a kick-off toward the 80th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai's founding.
